CITY OF CHANNEL ISLANDS BEACH

WHAT'S IN IT FOR THE REST OF OXNARD?

There are so many reasons why current Oxnard residents that will be included in the boundaries of the new City of Channel Islands Beach would be excited about and want to vote for the incorporation. But why would the residents of the remaining City of Oxnard vote to allow the new City of Channel Islands Beach to incorporate?

That is a very good question, because opponents of incorporation will say that the new city is stealing the beaches, airport, college, high school, golf course, and all the property taxes and leaving Oxnard with nothing but poor communities.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

The remaining City of Oxnard, following a positive incorporation vote for Channel Islands Beach, would still retain the Auto Center, the retail corridor along the 101 Freeway, the Esplanade, the Financial Center at Vineyard, the Downtown, and all the industrial areas in the northeast portion of the city. Riverpark and other developments on the books will be building out. The remaining City of Oxnard would have considerable current and future revenues compared to the City of Channel Islands Beach, but would get to distribute that current revenue amongst a much reduced city area and population. The revenues that are presently flowing into the City  of Oxnard would go much further and increase the likelihood of better municipal services for the remaining city residents.

The beaches, high schools, college, golf course, and harbor would not be lost to the residents of the remaining City of Oxnard. Oxnard residents  would be able to access all of those amenities just as they do now. The only change will be that the residents of the City of Oxnard would not have to pay taxes to maintain those amenities if they end up in the new City of Channel Islands' jurisdiction. Oxnard residents would get to access them for free, as the residents of the unincorporated portions of the county now get to access the Oxnard Library, golf course, etc. but do not pay taxes toward their maintenance.

Bottomline, after a successful City of Channel Islands incorporation vote, both the new city and remaining City of Oxnard will be in great financial shape, better geared to provide optimum municipal services for their respective residents, and leaner and better configured to respond to their residents' needs and concerns.

Channel Islands Beach Incorporation will benefit the residents of the City of Oxnard as well as the residents of the new city!
